Tax extension due date

When is the IRS extension due date? Can tax deadline be extended? Can I extend my tax return past October 15? Filing this form gives you until Oct.


To get the extension, you must estimate your tax liability on this form and should also pay any amount due. The IRS urges taxpayers who are owed a refund to file as quickly as possible.

The new July deadline helps taxpayers who owe money. The Treasury later announced that it would also grant a 90-day extension for filing federal taxes as well. If October falls on a weekend or legal holiday, you have until midnight the next business day following October to timely file your tax return. An extension provides an extra six months to file your return. Payment of the tax is still due by April 15.


You can submit payment for any taxes you owe along with the extension form. That means both the delayed filings and payments are due July 15. You have right up until tax day to file for an extension.


For individuals, that means you can still file for a tax extension right on July 15.

The same goes for businesses: S corps and partnerships can still get an extension on March 1 and the last day for C corps to file for an extension is July 15. For calendar year corporations, the due date is March 15. Partnerships and LLCs who are taxed as partnerships whose tax returns are due on March now have a 90-day extension to file and pay by June 15. See Form for more information.


When an extension of time to pay is grante interest on any unpaid tax accrues from the original due date. No Installation Needed. If by that deadline you put in for a further extension , your tax return will be due on Oct. But know that a tax extension gets you more time to file your return, not more time to pay. Wisconsin law will automatically extend time and waive interest and penalties for taxpayers due to a presidentially declared disaster.
