The quickest way to obtain a copy of your current year Form W-is through your employer. The easiest way to get a copy of a lost W- is to contact the employer who issued it. We will waive the $fee for taxpayers impacted by a federally declared disaster.

Here are a few things you can do to try and speed up the process to get your refund: Check that your employer, previous or current, has mailed the form. Be sure to confirm the date it was sent, too. If you lost your W- contact your employer to get a duplicate prior-year W-or look on your employer’s website for a digital copy of a lost W-2. What if Your Employer Can’t Give You Your Lost W-Form ? Another way to get a copy of an old W-is to contact your tax preparer (if you have one). Be prepared to provide your Social Security number.

The IRS only retains actual copies of Form W- Wage and Tax Statement, as an attachment to your tax return for prior years. You can obtain a copy of your Wonline, or the amount your employer reported to the Social Security Administration, by using the IRS’ Get Transcript service. To register, you will need to provide your name, address, Social Security number, filing status and date of birth. Employers are required to send W-forms by January each year or the next business day if the date falls on a weekend or holiday. However, you may not need to wait on the mail.
